They seem to be growing in and near bushes you see in the pictures. They like the shade but I don't know the names, they're about 4 - 5 feet tall. The stem is about .5 - 1 inch thick.

Probably not brugmansia; on taking another look after Saltcedar's post I see that the stems don't look as "solid" as brugmansia's.
