What type of tree/plant is this?

    There are several trees of this species at Farrington Lake in East Brunswick, NJ that are 20 feet in height with leaves, bud and flowers as seen in the attached photos. This was the first time I had been on the lake in May and I had never seen these flowers before. any help identifying this tree is greatly appreciated.

    Tulip-tree Liriodendron tulipifera.

    It is NOT a poplar Populus.

    And it is NOT a tulip, but it is the state tree of Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee.

    interesting... I always like to learn about which plant represents a certain country. did you know about lime tree (Tilia) and Chech Republic?
