I don't know what type of plant this is. It has grown tall and spindly with just the one stalk. What can I do to make it healthier and hopefully more attractive?

you can top it off - leave a couple inches of trunk on it - and plant that piece. then, you can take the remaining trunk and cut it into pieces a few inches long and plant them as well - either on their side half buried or straight up and buried and inch or so.

Thank you for the advice; I was afraid to cut it without asking someone first.

One of the innumerable Cordyline cvs available now. Haven't really kept up on them, but there has been an explosion of them in the trade around here in the last two seasons.
