what type of lima bean is this?

    Got given these beans from someone, all they said is that it can be cut down at the end of the growing season and will come back again. He said it can be done for 3-4 years.

    Looks like the Lima bean called Christmas Lima. The big white Limas are perennial, but I don't know about this one. I guess it must be, since your friend has been growing them that way.
