Does anyone know what kind of tree this is?
The colour is incredible right now....
Presuming it’s a recent street tree in City of Vanc ... is it on your official list fr the permit department ? (Persian walnut posting in this forum)
Fraxinus americana. Gets much bigger than this - when not spoiled by emerald ash borer.
Interesting that it’s apparently naturalized in Hawaii (wiki)
Yes it is on the official Vancouver City List.
Be aware that Fraxinus is relatively late to leaf out and often is the first to colour and lose leaves in its species forms.
Looks to me like it's had its top cut off a few (3-4?) years ago - flat top with strong erect branches suddenly slimming down to thin twigs (with the actual cut ends hidden by leaves). Bad arboricultural practice, but all too common, sadly.
