I'm new on the forum so please excuse me if I do this post wrong OK. I purchased a Shirasawanum Yasmine, Japanese Maple, about 6 weeks ago ( mid to late April 2016), I noticed a seedling in the pot about 2-3 inches tall, I had to take out the top layer of sawdust type material and renew with some ericaceous compost, while doing so, I noticed the seedling was shooting from an acorn type seed, I'm not an expert in exact names of things so I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say? I've left the seedling as it was and in this time now (into first week of July), it has grown quickly to about 6 inches high, I'm curious to what type of tree this could, I'm wildly guessing it could be an oak tree or something similar. The Japanese Maple was bought on eBay here in the UK, but I have heard that some of these cultivars could have come from the nurseries in Holland. Thankyou Excuse the quality of photographs, taken at twilight, if need be I'll take some during the day.
Yep, an oak; to be exact Pedunculate Oak Quercus robur. Probably an acorn hidden there by a jay or perhaps a squirrel.
Hello Michael, wow, what a fast identification, didn't expect it to be so quick, thankyou so much, I will research this tree now and learn about it, how the acorn got there is very interesting, nature always finds a way, kindest regards for taking the time to help me, thankyou.
