https://www.etsy.com/listing/158729534/herbarium-pendant-woodland-shelf?ref=shop_home_active I found this mushroom (and the other like it in that shop) in Western MA in a damp, muddly incline growing in soil in the forest. It has a porous underside and a lateral stalk. The majority of the mushrooms were larger than the one depicted.
Hi Squiver, It looks like a member of genus Polyporus, eg something along the lines of Polyporus squamosus or similar, something with what looks like quite large pores. I'm not from your region so it doesn't immediately look familiar. Could it have been growing on buried wood? What size is this specimen? Hope that is helpful, frog
Thank you for the help. This particular specimen's cap is only about a centimeter and a half in diameter, but it was a relatively small specimen. Most of the fungi present were 2-4 centimeters across. It is possible it was growing on buried wood, if very decayed; the soil it was growing on was very loose, and there were many fallen logs around. It is also worth noting that the resin might have darkened the color of the cap slightly, but the cap already appeared quite dark. (It was raining).
