It was ok a year ago then it's leaves started to turn lighter green then to yellow and they fell off.I discovered that the pot it was in it was too small so I put it into a large one but it didn't get enough light,so now is in a medium pot.It is all dried up but the trunk is hard and the roots don't show that it would be dead so I think it is still alive. What should I do to make it grow again?
Here is a picture of how it looked in December 2006:

If the roots appear to be healthy, as you have suggested, then it should come back. It may take several weeks to a few months before you see any new shoots emerging from the caudex. Since the main stalk appears to be damaged, it will likely attempt to start growth from the caudex, itself.

Water sparingly, keeping the soil slightly moist to nearly dry.

Beaucarnea have a strong will to live. Many have been discarded and written off as dead only to have new growth start 4 weeks to 3 months later. If the caudex and roots appear to be intact, then give it some time.
