What should I do about the shoot coming out of the stem of the very large Pony Tail?

    What should I do about the shoot coming out of the stem of the very large Pony Tail plant? If I leave it alone, it will probably develop into a stalk along side of the original plant and take away from the appearance of the original one.

    Probably Beaucarnea recurvata

    At one point recently this had been changed to Nolina recurvata, don't know current status.

    I don't know the botanical name but it looks like the Caudiciforms and Pachycaul Trees in this thread.

    I just did a search on Nolina recurvata that brought up Beaucarnea recurvata, showing Nolina recurvata as one of the synonyms.
