Live in South Florida, Picked about 20 seeds from a palm we can't identify. Looks grey like a bismarke palm but NOT. Seeds are dark brownish/red Shaped like a green pepper and the size of your fist. ANYONE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE ????
Can you post us a picture? They sound like Morete (Mauritia) seeds but seeing them would greatly aid the ID.
Those are very unusual - are they hard, like seeds, or are they soft, like fruits? If you try to cut one open, what happens? What do they smell like? Are they oily? Sweet? If they are seeds, the best method would be to plant one and see what sprouts. If they're fruits, you need to remove the pulp before you plant the seeds.
I cut one open. I would describe it similar to a coconut. Hard on the outside. When husk is peeled away it's kindof hairy. Inside the hairy shell is kindof like a nut with a very hard white center. It has no taste. The smell is kindof like a rotton mango on the ground. These seeds were hanging in a bunch in this palm. Just like all the palms have that seed pod cluster. ?? If your stumped, where shall I go from here. Because if it is some rare kindof palm I want to care for them properly ya no. I can take a photo of the tree over the weekend. It is a silver looking palm. Like a bismarkiea.....
