Identification: what plant is this?

    good morning, can someone tell me what plant this is? It's been really hard to keep alive and I'm not sure I'm not helping it any...:)

    Looks like Aglaonema modestum, Chinese Evergreen.

    I've never seen an Aglaonema with that kind of trunk, I thought the stems were more slightly more herbaceous. Could this be a low-light Dieffenbachia instead?

    You may be right. A. Modestum does develop a thick stem but a few of the uppermost leaves of this plant, upon closer inspection, appear to have some variegation similar to a dieffenbachia. Also, the venation is closer to dieffenbachia.
