Could someone please help me identify this plant? It is said to have some medicinal properties and I'm curious what it is so I can do some more research on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looks tropical. Show a close up of reproductive parts, looks like there is the remains of an inflorescence on at least one stem.

I can't take another picture at the moment because it belongs to my mom and she lives in another town. Any ideas or guesses for the time being? i'm sure some of you guys can narrow it down to a certain plant group right?

If it helps any, my mom said the flowers in the summertime are white in color.

That's a tall order. Really hard to ID without enough description.

That said, I'm inclined to think Psychotria spp. Just an impression of the leaves. I know it's not Psychotria nervosa but there are a few others it could be. P. nervosa at least has small white flowers.

Here are some more pictures. Sorry they're not all that clear as I just took them with my phone. Anyway let me try to give a better description of this plant:

It is only about 2 feet tall and the leaves are about 3 inches long. They are glossy on the upside and a little less glossy on the underside. The leaves are a little firm resembling something like the leaves on a lemon tree. They're of course not as thick as lemon tree leaves but definitely thicker than say a red oak. They also resemble the look and feel of a fake plastic decorative tree.

The picture that looks like a rye stalk is a dried remains of the flowers. Any more ideas on what this might be?
