Identification: What plant is this one?

    I have seen this plant many times and there was a time when I could tell you the name of it. Oh well!! I would really appreciate knowing, not only the name, but a few things about it.

    This plant is huge and has never been trimmed back. Is it possible to "prune" this plant and if so, can I put the pieces in water to get them to root?
