I have a small "Aurea" sage plant in backyard garden. Figured something as pungent as sage would have few pest issues, but something has been nibbling at edges of leaves. Looked it over but can't see anything in residence...anybody have an idea on what I might be up against, and suggestions what to do about it? Trying to be organic, and plan for this sage to be not only ornate but culinary use, also. Thanks...

In this kneck of the woods, beachdee, we have several "first" suspects Deer, Rabbits, and sometimes Racoons. I'm from the SJ Islands and those were always my first suspects when nibbling occured. Get up early in the morning or stay up late with all the lights off and see who visits. barb

Thanks for responding, barb. Actually, it's a very baby plant, and the nibbles are "baby-size" nibbles...I was thinking more along the lines of worms or insects nibbling, and just hadn't thought that anything would eat sage. But am a newbie at this, so don't know. Altho we have a large yard, we live close to town and lots of dogs etc. about, so I don't think we'll be seeing any deer, and so far haven't seen rabbit or raccoon. But I suspect they may be lurking in the ravines. I don't mind sharing a bit of my crops, as long as there's still some for me. Just curious as to what would want to eat sage, in case it starts to get worse and I have to take action. Whatever it is, it has not been as obvious as the fat green worms I picked off my holey, baby Lacinato kale yesterday evening. They (the kale, not the squished worms) looked happier and bigger already today.

Anybody else have any ideas or experience with sage?
