What kinda plant is this? please?

    i've been trying to identify some newly acquired plants, and my cousin asked me to help him identify his plant. below are a few pictures he sent me. it looks some sort of cane, but i have no idea.
    If you could help that would be greatly appreciated!

    Looks like Alpinia zerumbet 'variegata' to me. Try cutting one of the canes and smelling it - if I'm right, it'll be like sweet ginger with hints of honey, and be mildly spicy to taste.

    lorax...should this plant be in direct sunlight? I'm thinking that it's looking kinda toasted.

    It is looking like a bit of a crispy critter. My Alpinias are all in part shade, and it seems to do them good.
