I moved into my new house in september and there is a very old vine planted in my front garden. One person said maybe it was clematis. It hasn't bloomed. The wood at the base is probally 3 inches thick. I am hoping someone will be able to idenify it. I am attaching a photo of the vine with some new leaves and one big leaf. Thanks

Might be Clematis montana. Blooms on shoots coming from old wood in spring. If cut back hard flowering is prevented, until it is allowed to keep stems for more than one season.
