What kind of tree is this?

We thought this tree was dead all summer, it had no leaves or flowers. Then one day in October we began seeing tiny pink flowers. It continues to bloom even through frost and snow. Still no leaves only the flowers. We just bought our house in June so the tree was already here and we have no idea what kind it is. Can anyone help?

Cherry, maybe Prunus subhirtella 'Autumnalis Rosea'. There are some very knowledgable cherry tree enthusiasts on the forums here that can likely be definite.

Tree would be better not lopped back repeatedly.

We just bought the house in June, that is how it was when we got here, like I said, we thought it was dead.

The lack of leaves during summer and fall is curious, considering it is blooming quite well now.
