We live in NE OHIO. We have quite a few small trees popping up with the below flower. What type of tree is it?

A hickory (Carya) - that is the spring foliage, not a flower.

Nope, not Aesculus - the leaves and shoots are alternate, not opposite, and the leaflets are pinnate, not palmate. Definitely Carya, though it's probably a bit early in the year to tell which species.

    Hickory dickery doc?

Its hopeless to expect to be able to ID the plants from fresh emergent foliage alone.

Post another picture when its in full leaf and in bloom.
