What Kind of tree is this?

    Hello can anyone identify this tree species? I was on vacation in Tatarstan Russia, when my friend introduced my to a wonderful scrub brush made from the inner tree bark of this tree (see photo)

    It's an (aphid-infested) species of Tilia (basswood or linden-tree) - very often used in wood carving.
