Identification: What kind of plant have I got?

    The tag that came with this plant identified it as a majesty palm, but all photos I've seen of that type are quite different. I need to find out what I can do with it because it's grown too tall.

    it's a draceana - probably janet craig.

    I agree, Janet Craig Dracaena. In the spring, the main stem can be cut back halfway, or more, new leaves will grow near where you made the cut. You can also root the top.

    Thank you all very much. I've found a number of web references that deal with cutting/propogating Dracaenas. Another adventure!

    this is the wrong time of year to cut it. if you can avoid doing so now, i'd really wait until mid-spring.

    although the leaves are hitting the ceiling, the main trunk isn't quite up that high yet. it shouldn't be much taller even if you wait until next spring.

    Thanks for the advice joclyn. I have no problem with waiting until spring - it'll give me more time to build up the courage - HA!
