Palm tree.jpg We just moved in and there are two of these in the front yard. Unfortunately, I think, one of them is over the septic tank.

Thanks. Does it have a long tap root? Or big roots that will bust into the septic tank it was planted over? How, when, and how much do I prune the limbs that begin to sag to the ground? Obviously, I need to learn a lot to care for them properly. Thanks for your patience.]

Like many Canary Island Dates this one is too close to the house
and may damage your roof. The roots shouldn't be a problem for
the septic unless it stops raining in Houston. Not Bloody likely :-)
Prune the lower fronds as they become unsightly or if they threaten
    to take someone's eye out.

Chris, Good news on the roots over the septic. Although we have had a few droughts here. The palm looks closer in the picture than it actually is. It's about 8 ft from the foundation. The longest frond, if it's growing directly at the house just brushes the brick.
