What kind of oak tree is this?

    It was found in Erie PA. If you can't tell from the picture the acorn is about 1 3/4 inch long and the cap is small and very hairy. I didn't look at the actual tree itself, but I was told it resembled an english oak in shape.

    It's Quercus macrocarpa, aka bur oak, or a hybrid of Q. macrocarpa with white oak.

    With those little leaves? What do bebb oak acorns looks like?

    The acorns look like Turkey Oak Quercus cerris. Pic isn't clear enough to tell if the leaves and twig match - can you get a sharper, higher resolution pic?

    I actually saw the trees this time and without a doubt it's turkey oak. Thanks.

    Yep, that's Turkey Oak. Note the characteristic bristles around the buds.
