Here is, what I know or have been told about this tree:
    - Despite its immensely dense foliage, it has never been pruned. I know that to be true for at least the almost six years I live here.
    - I am told, that this particular type of tree loses its compact and even growth as soon as it is cropped even once.
    - The tree had three brethren, two with red leaves and one with yellow leaves, which had, I am told, similar crowns, but lost their compact shape after the were pruned. They then grew like any other maple tree. Unfortunately two of them had to be cut down last year, because the trunks had rotted from the inside. The third one was sacrificed this spring because its roots were breaking up the nearby pavement.

What I’d like to find out about it is:
    - Its name.
    - If the seedlings will likely breed true as to its shape
    - If any body in this forum would be interested in one or two of its seedlings, which I would mail free of charge. I have a few.
    Thanks,
    Olaf

The seedlings very likely won't keep the same shape. They will most likely be typical 'wild-type' Norway Maple shape.

Thanks Michael, now, that I know what it is, I see, that it is propagated 'through grafting'. I just do not yet know 'on what?'.
But my main concern is resolved, I will just weed out the seedlings.

It'll be grafted on ordinary Norway Maple seedling rootstocks.
