I received what was labeled as a Dwarf Meyer Lemon tree as a gift. But every photo of a DM that I've seen shows a very small, table top kind of tree. My tree stands about 4 feet tall.....is it another type of lemon tree? Also, it seems to have tons of smallish leaves but no flowers or fruit yet. Is it normal to have so many leaves?
All dwarf citrus trees, including Meyer, can/will eventually grow up to 8 feet tall. No variety of dwarf citrus that I am aware of will remain a table top sized tree, without constant pruning, and the problem with pruning a citrus tree is then the tree will not fruit. My guess, the chances of your tree being what the label says, a dwarf Meyer lemon, is 99 percent sure. - Millet
Ive seen Dwarf Meyer Lemons growing as a bush and not as a tree. The bush is very productive in producing fruit an can be growing using a 3-7 gallon containers. Dale
Thanks for the replies. I am going to attempt to repot soon using all the info I've read on the posts. Thanks for the education :)
Well, my original plan was to repot before I bring the tree in for the winter (I live in Nebraska). My tree has started blooming and forming little lemons (yeah!) and now I am unsure what to do. So my question is.....what do I do now???
A bigger question maybe why is it blooming now? Citrus bloom in response to stress. If it is blooming in response to root damage from wet feet and poor potting media, you certainly need to repot. However, if you have a good fast draining media with lots of airspace, I would leave it be for now.
