Can anyone tell me what kind of flower this is? It is from a plant my daught gave me on Mother's Day! I love the gorgous color of the flowers. It seems to be doing better now that it did through the summer . I guess it may be a fall plant.

Definitely a Dahlia. They usually grow and bloom throughout the summer so if yours was doing poorly until now it may be a problem with cultivation. In hot summer areas it needs light shade during the hottest part of the day.

Also, if you live in an area where the ground freezes in winter, you will want to dig the tuber cover it with sand, sawdust, vermiculite or perlite and store it in a cool dry place until spring.
