These large "cherry" trees are on the north side of Midlothian Avenue, near its Cambie junction, across from Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver. I have always wondered what variety they are. Any ideas?

From this distance appear to be sweet cherry (Prunus avium). If you look at the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival portion of this web site you may even find other photos of this same planting.

I found this posting while looking for Prunus avium leaves. These trees are Prunus avium 'Plena', a double-flowered cultivar. I'm sure they were not on the festival map when this query was posted, but they're on it now. After reading the page text, click on the map picture to get to the map.
