Another one in from the deck. This is an amazing plant. My daughter gave it to me a few years ago (she got it at a yard sale) and when I went to repot it, the roots were completely infested with ants...basically no soil left. After I repotted it is has grown abouit 4 inches every summer and I bring it into a not very sunny room for the winter and it still survives. This summer it started to branch off! I guess we are doing okay with the care of it, but I was wondering what it's proper name is and how often I should repot it or anything else I should know...if anyone has any thoughts, thanks!

It's a Euphorbia, rather than a cactus. An example of convergent evolution - unrelated plants developing similar forms in response to similar (arid, in this case) environments.

Use the same pot if the roots fit ok, or, go up one pot size larger. Use a good cactus soil with Scoria (Lava chips) Pumice, or even Perlite added for faster drainage.
