We bought a house in the fall and haven't had a chance to really look around the yard until today. We have a row of some type of Cherry trees along our fence and they have some nasty looking wound like areas on them. There is pitch / sap around the openings and some of the bark is peeling back. It looks a little different than Black Knot. We have not yet seen if there will be any issues with flowering or fruit production or if the leaves will show us any signs of stress. Any ideas?

Look up gummosis. Multiple possible causes.

no worries....shot in the dark I guess.

Thanks with regards to the gummosis search. That is what my husband said too ( he is an arborist). I will see what I can find out and hopefully try and correct / treat the problem. Probably got it from the nasty Schubert we cut down. It was so horribly diseased it wasn't worth saving.

    Thanks again!

Can you please post a follow up if a treatment cures the problem. Thanks.
