I was walking in the sierra national forest and saw these growths on the trunk of a very healthy looking tree. I'm just wondering what it is. If you have any information on this please reply. Thank You

It looks like the Red Belt Conk - Fomitopsis pinicola growing in/on a Douglas-Fir tree.
    One of my favourite mushrooms!

What is that dripping off of it, and how often does it do that?

I don't know what the droplets are for, what they contain, but they do come from the conk, and I expect that as long as the conk is "live," as in still growing, it would continue exude these droplets.

Good question. More info on this anyone?
