Identification: What is this?

    Not to show my ignorance to the world, but what is this. It showed up on edge of driveway this morning - is it lichen?

    Ear fungus or similar. That's why it popped up, it's a spore-producing structure rather than a "plant" body.

    Looks like Aleuria aurantia or similar

    Thanks Frog - I looked up Aleuria aurantia and was not surprised to find the common name is Orange Peel Fungi. It is edible, but apparently not too tasty. Its a natural recycler, feeding nutrients back to the environment.

    I'm not all that conservative about what fungi I eat and I wouldn't consider this one edible. I don't even know anyone who eats this one.
