I have posted this on the Japanese Gardening website also and wondered if anyone on this forum might know what this is. The leaves are almost succulent like and are soft and rubbery to the touch. If you crush the leaves there is no odor. It has taken 10 plus years to grow two feet high and four feet wide.

Possibly a Hebe. Can you get a close-up of the foliage?

Here is a better closeup showing the branch structure as well as the leaves. The branches are not stiff but are quite flexible. There has never been any cones or other obvious seeds on this plant either.

There appears to be some similarity between my plant and salicornia but I can't find any pics showing a mound shape to that plant.

Could your plant have been browsed by animals, insects or wind/freeze pruned?

Nope, if you look at the picture of the whole shrub, it has basically stayed this shape but has grown bigger. I haven't done any pruning on this plant other than to cut back those long ones on the right.

I still haven't received a positive id of this plant. Surely there is someone out there can id it?

I didn't see the other reply until later and upon opening the file, agree that it is probably a Hebe cupressoides. thank you very much. Part of this plant I have turned brown and died off. Would anyone know why this happened? Also is there any way to propagate this plant?
