Identification: What is this?

    Can anyone help me identify this plant? Can you also tell me about it?

    A bromeliad of some sort. The yellow bit is the flowering spike.

    it's a bromeliad. which particular one, i have no idea.

    basic care is: very, very well draining soil - orchid mix works well. also, the roots need good air circulation - so one of the 'orchid' pots that has holes in the sides is good to use. bright indirect lighting. water by putting water in the the leaves - it'll collect at the bottom where the leaves meet the base - change water out weekly if there's any still left when you check it. occassional misting, also.
