My husband got this plant from some friends. They said it was a type of cactus, the leaves are sharp and pointy. It has a flower. It was growing in a cluster of like 6 of these. It needs to be pruned. Thanks for any help.

Hi it might be a Yucca Filamentosa. There should be some good pics and info on a google search.

    Good luck

Thanks that looks like that is what it is. Hopefully mine will get prettier once it is pruned and cleaned up. Thanks again

    Not what I thought????

I posted about this plant a couple of days ago, someone replied that it could be a yucca filamentosa, I thought it was. But after more learning and closer inspection I dont think it is. It might be part of the yucca family. In the yucca filamentosa it has long filaments that hang off the leaves, this one definatley does not have any of that. I took more pics. It also has another plant growing off the side??? I took a pic of that, if anyone can tell me what kind of yucca this is I would greatly appreciate it, I want to make sure it gets what it needs.

    Hi Eaglelox:

I've provided a link to your original post so that others will know.
Can you find out where the person that gave you your plant got
theirs? Was it a native plant or was the original plant purchased
at a nursery. Not all native Yucca's have the fibres (fibers)
emanating from the leaves. What I would need to see is the
flower to know if I have your plant pegged correctly. If you can
show a pic of the flower or direct me to a URL that shows the
flower I may then know if what I suspect your plant as being is
accurate or not but I must admit I am not getting a good enough
"read" on your plant for some reason. Knowing the flower will
help me the most right now.

  7. yucca

I had these Yuccas in my yard, they grow to be quite tall and bloom large white/yellow flowers in early spring. The blooms don't last long, they are heavy and droop. These plants also multiply quickly.
