I just recently moved into my house and when we first moved in these didn't exist or that I could tell.Since about a month ago these have erupted ALL over my yard like rapid fire.Have used round up and it will kill everything then this grows right back up in the same spot bringing more with it.I have looked constantly trying to find out exactly what it is.I have tons of different weeds and plants I been tackling that has overtaken my yard since its been negleted for years with avail but not these.Any help with what it is so I can get more info to get rid of the problem would be great. Thank you... There is no berries or nuts, smooth not fuzzy, one in my yard in the corner has grown to be about 15' high. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b193/alisia419/unknown1.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b193/alisia419/unknown2.jpg
Don't have a name for it, but I personally would let a couple mature because they're kind of nice looking, possibly ferns, or who knows? Maybe a local nursery or ... plant person would know better, being in your area.
This could be tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima) because I can see those peculiar teeth near the base of some of the leaflets. If it is tree-of-heaven then these little plants might become very high trees rather quickly!
And if it is "Tree-of-Heaven" it will be like playing "Wack a Mole" in your back yard. According to USDA, it has been banned in Connecticut, prohibited in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and a noxious weed in Vermont. http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=AIAL Also looks like a sumac (Rhus), but the fruit should tell for sure.
Definitely Ailanthus altissima. Note the single small lobe at the base of the leaflets. Serious weed, do all you can to get rid of it.
