This plant was found above 10,000' in Yosemite National Park. It was growing almost out of rock, no other plants close by. I asked the ranger and she didn't know.

The flower resembles but is most likely not Caulanthus heterophyllus common name Sandiego Jewelflower, a member of the Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) or mustard family at the above link.

It is most likely Caulanthus amplexicaulis or Claspingleaf Wild Cabbage but the best picture I was able to locate was the above link at calflora. The Calflora site does have some links on it (the Jepson link in particular) that you might take a look at. Perhaps someone with a greater knowledge of CA flora and web sites might have better luck.

All confirmed locations for C. amplexicaulis however, are from Southern CA so it still might be another species of Caulanthus.

I recieved this reply from Jeffery A. Greenhouse at Jepson Flora Project from UC at Berkeley. So the species in question is Streptanthus tortuosus var. orbicularis.
