these seeds were bought somewhere about 7-10 years ago as A. nervosa......from the states i think....too long ago to remember. long story short i have 2 plants growing on 3-4 years now that have at least to me looked like nervosa. never flowered until now. i get back from malaysia jsut an hour ago and this thing is all through the deck and what looks like some other kind of creeper plant growing through the hbwr. no worries i was thinking of weeding it out tomorrow. these 2 "HBWR" plants have always had this monstrose growth like stuff. it appears to keep trying to offset but never fully goes out, like those monstrose opuntias you see with thousands of tiny little heads. i always thought* this was cause of the ants damaging the apical meristem so never really looked into it. fast forward to today and these tiny little heads are now stems (i was gone for 3 weeks so they had to to grow unnoticed). the interesting part is the leaves on these stems are tiny, they almost look like alder tree leaves. only about 5-10cm long compared to the traditional HBWR looking leaves which are 30+ and heart shaped. Pictures. Whole plant about 9 meters tall until i hack it down. the "monstrose" type growth. Normal leaf normal and dwarf leaf. they are fuzzy on bottom and not on top as usual. flowers, how bizaar any thoughts?
Aristolochia elegans? these are much different than the Aristolochia elegans we had labeled back in canada. the leaves are far far thicker and fuzzier and the flowers seem way off. also the seeds of this vine appear to be very similar to those of what i have grown as Argyreia nervosa & Argyreia speciosa. the dutchmans pipe seeds we collected were far smaller and flatter. our plants looked more like this: http://www.weeds.org.au/cgi-bin/weedident.cgi?tpl=plant.tpl&state=&s=&ibra=all&card=V14 the above plant is very different.
just got a new lens for the camera so was playing with it at sunset. here are some more pics of this plant........any ideas? some good news, the "normal" growth area is also flowering, and so far is looking more in line with what a HBWR should look like, i am hoping this flower will settle this matter :)
