I was given this tree and do not know what type it is. It looks fairly common. Does anyone know what it is?

I want to say Dracaena, but it could also be Cordyline. I get the two confused....

It is Dracaena fragrans (Deremensis Group) 'Lemon Lime'. This species has a few synonyms, but that is what the RHS is calling it currently. The markings of that cultivar are very distinct.

Thank you so much, after a quick research it is obvious, the Lemon Lime has the exact same markings as my tree. Fantastic! Another question resolved. :)

    Eric,
Is the inclusion of "(Deremensis Group)" in the name required for it to be technically correct? Or is it there for clarity?

RHS like to use the group names. It is technically correct part of the name, but you don't see plants listed that way on other sites so much. Other sites list this as Dracaena deremensis, but some feel it is actually Dracaena fragrans and list the group name to identify a distinct section of the species (usually something common in the trade or well known).

Just to be sure then, the proper botanical name is the long form you stated earlier?

Yes, but you will often find the group name left off, as Dracaena fragrans 'Lemon Lime'.
