Can you identify this tree? It might be some sort of a Japanese Maple. Here is a description. It has a lace leaf design simular to a Spring delight Green lace leaf Japanese Maple. New growth on the trunk is fuzzy, like a deer antler, but the estiblished trucnk has a bambo effect. It produces these pine cone shaped pods, that have red berry segments. It is not a very tall tree, the mature tree that I got the starter from was only 12 to 15 feet tall. It will produce "baby trees" from its main root system and it will produce them frequently. The leaves will turn red in the fall and fall compleatly away after first frost. You will only be left with the main trunck all winter.

I have tried to identify this tree for two years with no results, please help.

    Thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Peppermintpatty

Look up Rhus typhina (Stag's-horn Sumach), particularly the cultivar 'Dissecta'.

Definitely sounds like a Sumac, have you got a picture?

sounds like rhus typhina, you mentioned hairy stems, the typhina has hairs the glabra has none.
they do multiply rapidly especially when cut, the suckling can cover a ground range of 20ft, about 8-10inch from surface.
they are established within 20 days, and grow into thickets.

the birds love the flowers and drop their fecies onto your lawn, germination starts again.

the urshionoil it produces can cause contact dermitis, my son's were burned and blistered by them this summer.
were rubber not latex gloves when handling.
