This shrub (or maybe tree) is 5 ft. tall and narrow. It was found growing in a clump of lilacs. It had flowers in early spring but no berries. It has thorns on the branches and there are 2 different kind of leaves. I am going to attempt to add 3 photos. I guess the photos did not come through. Should I try again?
It's a Chaenomeles, or flowering quince. The rounded "leaves" close to the stem are stipules, which are appendages of the leaf stalks commonly found in certain plant families.
Not in your summer tho. Wait till late autumn or late winter. Not sure when you freeze up there but here I would be moving it in mid winter. Liz
