This was a very small plant in a 4 inch pot my daughter gave me. She thinks she got it in target. It has grown to be over 5 feet tall in 2.5 years. It gets two kinds of blooms at the same time - teeny pink flowers that fall and then berries that start out kind of burgundy colored and turn to dark blue or black. It is blooming right now. Not all the blooms have berries. Leaves are reddish when they first unfold and they are about 3 - 3.5 in long. They hang down along the branches on alternating sides. They have one center vein that runs up the leaf. the leaf is narrow at both ends, and is smooth along the edges except where it was bumped and scarred while growing. I would love to know what it is and if I can plant it outside. It is currently an indoor plant. Many Thanks!!!

Looks like Ardisia elliptica, Shoebutton Ardisia.

Thanks so much! I am in Pennsylvania - I guess I can safely move it out doors for the summer - but I see that it is from warmer climates and wont' winter over - right? And I should keep it in the pot since it can be invasive? Will the berries dropping make seedlings that I will find invasive or will they die off in the cold?

I'm afraid I cannot answer your questions. Hopefully another reader will have them.

It's a subtropical so keep indoors over Winter. It can spend the Summer
outside but keep it in the shade. Seedings will not survive your climate.
