Two years ago this and honeysuckle were growing in the fence row. I trimmed it to the ground and removed the fence. Fortunately the agressive honeysuckle did not come back. However this vine/shrub made a comeback. What is this? It appears to spread vine like on the ground until it hits something to climb and then does so. Its very attractive. But if it is agressive I need to know if I should with my trimming efforts? It looks menacing to the touch. Is it? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Safe to handle. The flowers are good for hummingbirds.

Thanks all for you knowledge. Funny that I have lived here for 15 years and never once seen it flower/bloom. I need to pay better attention!

It will likely only flower when it gets up into the top of the tree canopy.

While I agree that Campsis will likely only bloom at the top of whatever support it's
attached to it will bloom much lower to the ground. Say six to 10 feet. They seem
to bloom best when forced to produce lateral growth induced when they can't climb
    any higher.

Nursery stock blooms in 5 gallon pots. However, it is not usually growing in the woods.
