We have several of these (not to be confused with Mexician Mock Orange) that have come up volunteer over the years. We like them but have never been able to identify them. They have dark berries in the summer and the robins love them, but I tried one berry and they had an effect like having drunk a stiff drink! If anyone knows what they are I would love to know. Thank you. P.A.Miller

Yes, poisonous. Generally not a good idea to sample unknown plants - what birds (or cows or sheep) can eat can be deadly poisonous to humans (and vice versa).

Also if you ever remove Daphne laureloa, wear gloves and a mask when pulling up the roots. I sneeze for days if I don't.

Thanks for the information. We thought the plants were pretty, but didn't know they were harmful. We don't want children picking them. We also have blackberries that kids pick and we don't want anyone confused about what they can or can not handle or eat! I appreciate the heads up! PAM
