Was out on a walk into a new housing development and couldn't help notice some of these plants growing "untended" in a vacant lot.

The cool overcast day kept the flower heads closed so couldn't get a good flower pic -- they are normally a wonderful blue (similar to a shallow trumpet shape like morning glory) that reaches from a type of pod enclosure.

Any info on this plant is appreciated.

Thanks for the information, saltcedar and Barb!

The pods do indeed look like a cousin of the tomatillo and ground cherry ..only yes, I'll bet these cousins are lots healthier although the Shoo-fly could make for a good weight-loss plant ;-)

The Shoo-fly looked strikingly pretty in amongst the tall grass and weeds on the building lot. If they're still there I'll slide by the lot again in a few weeks and harvest the seed pods for use in our garden next year.

    -cheers,
