I got this plant at a local store the other day, but it did not have any sort of identification with it. Can you help me identify what it is? Thanks!
Dracaena 'Janet Craig Compact' I believe. http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Agavaceae/Dracaena_deremensis.html
one of the moderators can move it for you - you'll have the ability to move threads you've started once you hit a certain number of posts/hit the minimum threshhold for time as a member here... anyhoo, doens't matter, really, as it's still in the 'plant id' forum!! looks like draceana 'janet craig'. i might be off on the particular variety though. looks nice and healthy!! they like dryish conditions when it comes to soil. i recommend repotting it in about 3 weeks (let it get used to your house first). when you unpot it, if the roots are very tight in the container, go up a size for the repotting and make sure it has drainage holes. also check the roots for damage and rot. anything that is brown/black in color and/or is mushy should be cut away with a sharp knife that's been sterilized (either in a flame and then cooled before use or dipped in bleach and rinsed before use). remove as much of the old soil from the roots as you can before putting in back in the container with the new soil. the soil should be very well draining. i use a mix of cactus soil, regular potting soil and some perlite (pretty much equal quantities of all). water thoroughly and then allow the soil to dry out some - about an inch/inch & half down and then water thoroughly again. lighting should be bright indirect light...some morning sun fully on it will be okay, too.
