What is this plant?

    What is this, a bush or a tree / shrub? And what is it, it used to be green and ficus like, now the red leaves with white flowers. It also has thorns, Thanks

    Yep, a Bougainvillea. It is a vine really, but can be pruned into a shrub-like shape. If kept in a pot it will grow well but not reach its true potential. In the ground some of these can reach enormous size. They are very popular in Australian gardens for their fabulous colour in summer and also because they have a lot of thorns so are often grown over fences and the like.

    On the way to Texas QLD.

    There is a Gum tree 20 mtrs high.

    And it is totally engulfed by this vine.

    Next time We pass that way, I`ll take a pic or 30. cheers.

    it must look spectacular. A friend of mine has a mature jacaranda which has been taken over by a deep crimson bougainvillea. In late spring the display has to be seen to be believed :)

    Yep, AUS. Never fails to amaze me.

    But we still dont get the snow that Canada does.

    What a pity.
