Identification: What is this pencil like fungus?

    The fungus in this picture is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter and 5 inches in length.
    When first spotted (about 4 hours before photo) it was erect and the red tip was very
    bright. It is growing in a flower bed with cedar mulch. The mulch is there from last year
    and the newest plants are 1 1/2 months old. We had 1 1/2 inches of rain yesterday.
    Please help if you can identify this fungus.

    A stinkhorn, in either the genus Phallus, or (more likely) Mutinus.
