Hi. Can anyone identify this plant?

It appeared in our garden last year and is really invasive ..but still a very pretty ground cover. It's almost like an ivy and has a rather distinct odour, similar to that of laundry soap.

As you may gather from the pictures there appears to be two different varieties - - one a verigated white/green/cream with a red tinge and another an interesting green with red tinge.

    Thanks

    Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon' (variegated)

The green form is used in Asian cooking though I'm told it's an acquired taste.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and spot-on id. I'll just bet it is an acquired taste. Just getting past the smell is almost too much for me!

Egad! Googled it and looks like it's going to be a pain getting rid of it. Apparently, even Roundup won't entirely eradicate it ..but am going to try first thing in the AM. Digging it up will be a no-go as it is intertwined among the hostas and other valuable plants and I will lose them too, especially this time of year.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Chemical or otherwise, I don't care.

As far as I know the only sure way to be rid of it is to move ;-)
