I discovered this on the grass in my back yard today! I have no clue what this is and I dont know if it is harmful to pets or humans... Can someone tell me what they think is?? Thanks from Lake City, Florida!!
Spectacular, whatever it is. Don't think it is a maple, though! Perhaps this thread might glean better results in the Fungi/Lichen forum...? C.Wick/Frog/Mycorob will not only be thrilled to view your visitor, but will ID it for you in a flash. Welcome to you and Happy New Year, ashphilly!
I would need to see the bottom of the mushroom to be sure; but it looks like a distorted polypore, probably a Ganoderma. It's likely growing from buried wood.
Hi Ashphilly, Would it be possible to get a close up shot of the underside? 'Mainly wondering if it has pores or teeth. thanks, frog
Looks very similar to Ganoderma lucidum that I've found up here in Kansas.... Do you know if there's a cut tree in this location or any signs of roots around? Definately a Ganoderma of some sort...if not the G. lucidum than another type of 'varnish' kind maybe?
