I am curious if anyone can identify this deciduous hedge material?
It has bright red new growth, sharp spines 1-2 cm long
The bark is caramel brown on young branches, grey on older wood
    Leaves are green in summer
I have tried to identify it as Berberis or Pyracantha though not sure- does anyone have other ideas?

Hard to tell from these pictures but after looking at the one on the right I started thinking purple-leaved Japanese barberry. Specimen is in poor condition, there should be a lot more new growth popping out.
