What is this beautiful purple flower?

    These flowers come back every year and are very unique looking, any idea as to what it is?

    I do believe it is a Centaurea maybe centaurea cyanus but it goes by several common names Knapweed, bachelor buttons or corn flower

    Thank you very much...after further research from your note I believe it is "Centaurea montana - Perennial Cornflower".

    Yep, Centaurea montana (Perennial Cornflower) is right.
